Fishermen's Tales

Hi John,

I wanted to report in our catch on Saturday 5/21off of Hart Island.
I had the McHugh’s and Clancy’s out on our boat, “Abbey Fisherman” on Saturday. The Boys ages 2 to 5 were catching blues behind Hart Island to 8 lbs.
All were caught on spoons in 20 to 30 ft of water.

Tight Lines,

Tom

fishing report

Hey How You Doing Out There In The Fishing World!?!

As we approach the biggest weekend of the unofficial start of summer the striped bass are invading the Long Island Sound. These fish are coming out of the Hudson, caught under the bridges and in the channels from the Stepping Stone Lighthouse to Execution Lighthouse and also in the harbors of Manhasset and Hempstead bays. The bunker have shown up in the backs of the harbors and the bass are chewing them up. These fish are in 20-40ft of water. I have weighed in fish from 20-30 pounds. Some stripers are being caught off the local shore lines also. There are a few cocktail blues mixed in too. I cannot emphasize enough that the more and harder you fish now the greater the results will be on catching these nice size striped bass.

The Porgy Season officially opens May 24th. These large fish are being caught way up in the Eastern Long Island Sound. The party boats have special RSA permits so they have been catching these fish for the past week. The Island Current is sailing daily at 8am for jumbo porgies and with the permit you can keep up to 40 fish per person.

We are carrying plenty of Jack's Famous Fresh Bunker and Jack's Jumbo Sand and Bloodworms as well as Jack's Famous homemade chum. Chumming is a must!

PS For the flounder enthusiasts the season is open until May 30th. Flounder are being caught along the shore with worms and mussels.

Jack's long range for fishing and weather forecast is Excellent so come on down and see Big John and the Boys!

Also there is no shortage of striped bass around. Fish up to 20 pounds have been caught in local waters by the Throggs Neck Bridge, the Whitestone Bridge, Stepping Stone Lighthouse, and Harts Island.
