Father's Day Fishing Report

Hey how you doing out there in the fishing world!?!

As we approach the summer season all species of fish in the western long island sound will begin to increase in catch.

ON the fluke front they have been catching fluke to five pounds by the bridges~Throggs Neck and The Whitestone, the barges, along Country Club and Silver Beach, Harts Island on boththe south and north end, Prospect Point and Sands Point, Matinecock Point and all the Bayville Beaches. Another good spot is right behind Jack's in the Eastchester Bay between the City Island Bridge and the gas dock. Best bait is Jack's spearing, sand eels, squid and fresh bunker filets~putting this bait on either a buck tail or a fluke rig will work well. Best depth of water 15-50ft. with the larger fish being caught in deeper water.

ON the bluefish front plenty of bluefish between 8 and 12 pounds are being caught between Stepping Stone and Throggs Neck Bridge, behind Execution Lighthouse and also in the mouth of Hempstead Harbor and Manhasset Bay. So Anchor up, chunk a bunker, drop it into 15-50ft. of water and remember chumming is a must!

ON the striped bass front fish to 45 pounds have been weighed in at Jacks all caught on Jack's fresh bunker or live bunker. Best depth of water is 15-50ft. The bass are swimming under the pods of bunker and you must get your bait~especially if it is live bunker~to the bottom. Best areas are Throggs Neck, Hempstead Harbor, behind Execution Lighthouse, New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye. June will be the best month for big bass so get prepared, be ready and be sure to send all pictures in to Jacks even if it is catch and release take a picture, release and email it to jacksbait@aol.com. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

ON the porgy front the party boats have been doing very, very well they have been traveling further to the east to find the fish. Best bait is Jack's sandworms, bloodworms and Jack's sure catch fresh clams. Chumming is a must! The porgies will be moving closer to City Island as the month of June goes on but right now they are in deeper water and on pieces and structure instead of the bottom.

With the cooler water temperatures this year the fishing season will extend making the fishing phenomenal!

Fishing Report

Hey How You Doin' Out There In The Fishing World!?!
The month of May is here and the water temperature is still 51 degrees and this is good for the striped bass, the weakfish, the flounder, the fluke and the porgy fishing.

On the striped bass front: There are big fish being caught between the Throggs Neck and Whitestone Bridges, Fort Totten, The Wall at Maritime College, Stepping Stone Lighthouse, Execution Lighthouse, The mouth of Hempstead Harbor, Manhassett Bay, Little Neck Bay, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck and Rye. Best depth of water is 20-50 feet although are some fish are being caught in 15 feet but the majority are in the deeper water. Best bait: Jack's fresh bunker, Jack's Jumbo Sand and Bloodworms, Jack's live eels and Jack's sure catch clams. Fishing off the surf for striped bass is best by the Orchard Beach Lagoon, Rodman's Neck and Turtle Cove. Also there have been cocktail blues and weakfish mixed in with these striped bass in the last couple of days.

On the fluke front: May 1st was opening day and a few keepers have already been caught. Best areas are the barges and the bridges, in the channel behind Execution Lighthouse also by Prospect and Sands Points. Best bait: Jack's sure catch spearing, sand eels and squid, also filet of fresh bunker will do the trick.

On the flounder front: They are catching flounder in Eastchester Bay, Country Club, Orchard Beach Lagoon, Hudson Park and Harts Island. Best bait: Mussels, Jack's Jumbo Sand and Bloodworms with chumming a must.

On the porgy front: Opening day was May 1st and still no porgies caught as of yet. The water temperature is now 51 degrees but as soon the water temperature reaches 55 degrees this should make to be a very good porgy season. Best bait: Jack's Jumbo Sand and Bloodworms, Jack's sure catch clams and as with flounder chumming for porgies is a must!

This will probably be one of the best fishing years we have seen due to the gradual rather than sudden temperature increase this season.

Fishing Tip to Increase your odds of catching fish...Fishing more gets Fish on.

Fishing Fun for Everyone!

The summer of 2012 is definately upon us especially with these hot temperatures.  With the hot temperatures comes warmer water temperatures and that is great for fluke, porgies and bluefish!

On the bluefish front they are catching fish by the Throgs Neck Bridge, Stepping Stone Lighthouse, Hempstead Harbor, Behind Execution Lighthouse, Along the shorelines from the Connecticut side beginning at Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye and as far east as Greenwich.  Depth of water 15-30ft with some of the bigger bluefish caught in 40-50ft of water.  Best bait is of course Jack's fresh bunker, mackeral and chumming is a must!

To keep the fish around your boat you must use chum, trust me on this one!

The night bite seems to be a little better than the day bite for both the bluefish and striped bass at this time.

On the fluke front they are catching fish at the Throgs Neck Bridge, the barges along the Throgs Neck Bridge, Big Tom, Eastchester Bay, the City Island gas dock, Hart's Island both the south and the north side,  Gangeway Rock, Half Moon Beach, Sands Point, Prospect Point, Matinicock Point and further east in Bayville along the beaches and Oyster Bay.  Best  depth of  water  15-25ft with larger fish being caught in 25-45ft of water.  Best bait Jack's sure catch spearing, squid, and Jack's fresh bunker filets.  Use any of these baits on Jack's fluke rigs or bucktails.

On the porgy front there are some people catching their limits of 20 porgies behind Execution Lighthouse, Prospect and Sands Point, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye, Pea Island and Huckleberry Island and the old CBS tower.  Best bait is of course Jack's Jumbo sandworms and bloodworms. Also Jack's fresh skimmer clams. Note for those that like squid it will also work.  We have a variety of different squids in stock.  As always especially for porgies, Chumming is a must!
Depth of water 10-20ft the shallower the better if you go deeper and find some structure you may also catch sea bass.

I have heard of a few reports of Weak Fish being caught off of the local points Prospect, Sands, Matinicock. Best bait is of course Jack's Jumbo sandworms. Best depth of water 20-30ft.

On a final note Big John wants everyone to know that the summer is here. Where are you?

Captain Al on the Miller Time checks in

Big John,

I went out with my buddy, Sean Brady , for an action packed night of bass & blues aboard MillerTime. I put a 43 lb bass in the boat and Sean and I combined for a total of 18 bass. We had a few in the mid 20's but most ran in the mid to high teens. There were 3 shorts.

Additionally, there were no shortage of bluefish.

As we come to the end of the summer of 2011 we look forward to the beginning of the fabulous fall season! The water temperature will begin to drop day by day causing the fish to school up and feed agressively.

Best bait Jack's jumbo sandworms, Jack's fresh bunker and Jack's fresh skimmer clams. This season will be open until December 15th and as we closer to the month of November they will school up where you can catch them using diamond jigs.

Monday, August 1

Fishing Report

As we approach the hottest days of summer we also approach the hottest fishing of summer. August and September are two of the best months for great fluke fishing, blue fishing, porgy fishing and believe it or not striped bass fishing.

On the bluefish front they are catching bluefish in all of the harbors from little neck to Manhasset to Hempstead on the long island side and also on the Connecticut side from Larchmont to Mamaroneck to Rye. These bluefish are swimming into the sound chasing the bunker east. Even if you do not see the bunker the bluefish are on the bottom all you need is a chunk of Jack's fresh bunker to catch these blues.

On the striped bass front yesterday July 31st Captain Dan from the Island Current Fleet landed 5 keeper bass to 25 pounds and dropped a few very large fish. This says that the bass are difinately still here in the Western Long Island Sound. For both the blues and the bass Jack's fresh bunker, fresh mackeral, Jack's fresh clam and Jack's Jumbo sandworms are the best bait. Remember chumming is a must to keep the fish around your area!

PS Make sure to come in and sign up for the Greatest Bluefish Contest on Earth. All T-shirts and registration forms are here at Jack's. The contest is Aug. 27-28, 2011.

On the fluke front because of the tremendous amount of bluefish chewing up the bunker large schools of large fluke have invaded the Western Long Island Sound. These fish are being caught from the Whitestone and the Throggs Neck Bridges to all of the points east Hewlett Point, Prospect Point, Matinicock Point, Sands Point and also along the beaches of Bayville, Harts Island, The Blouses, Big Tom, by the City Island bridge, City Island gas dock and along the gravel barges. Best bait of course is Jack's Jumbo spearing and fresh cut sushi grade squid and strips of Jack's fresh bunker. All on fluke rigs, fluke hooks or buck tails. August are the two best months for fluke fishing. We have an extended season this year until the end of September.

So make sure to get out these next 60 days and fish hard for these fluke you may be rewarded with a 15 pounder.

On the porgy front the porgies have been dodging the bluefish for the past few weeks in the areas of New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye also by Sands Point, Prospect Point and Execution Lighthouse. People have been catching their limit fishing in 15-25 feet of water using Jack's Jumbo sandworms, Jumbo bloodworms and Jack's fresh clams. Remember chumming is a must for porgies too.

So for the next 60 days Jack's advice is to fish hard, fish long for a fish on.

Jack's Bait is not a location it is a destination so make it yours!
