As we come to the end of the summer of 2011 we look forward to the beginning of the fabulous fall season! The water temperature will begin to drop day by day causing the fish to school up and feed agressively.
On the striped bass front they are still catching fish to 25 pounds in shallow water by Hart's Island, the CBS tower, Throgs Neck and Country Club along the shore in depths of 5-10ft. Best bait Jack's jumbo sandworms, Jack's fresh bunker and Jack's fresh skimmer clams. This season will be open until December 15th and as we closer to the month of November they will school up where you can catch them using diamond jigs.
On the fluke front they are still catching fluke off all the points, barges and bridges in 20-40ft of water using Jack's fresh filet of bunker, Jack's jumbo spearing and squid combination. We have 2 more weeks left of fluke season. Fluke season will close September 30th. The porgy season will end for recreation boaters September 26th so make sure to get out and get your porgies for the closing bell. If you would like to continue to catch porgies you can do so on one of the fishing boats behind our store daily after Sept. 26th. Their daily limit is 40 porgies per person.
On the bluefish and snapper front they are still here with snappers feeding like crazy on spearing and by also using snapper poppers and shiny snapper lures. The bluefish are eating Jack's fresh bunker and they are catching them along the shorelines and out in the middle of the long island sound. If in a boat make sure you use chum. Chumming is a must!
Long Island sound has the best fall fishing so get out and do some!

Fishing Report
As we approach the hottest days of summer we also approach the hottest fishing of summer. August and September are two of the best months for great fluke fishing, blue fishing, porgy fishing and believe it or not striped bass fishing.
On the bluefish front they are catching bluefish in all of the harbors from little neck to Manhasset to Hempstead on the long island side and also on the Connecticut side from Larchmont to Mamaroneck to Rye. These bluefish are swimming into the sound chasing the bunker east. Even if you do not see the bunker the bluefish are on the bottom all you need is a chunk of Jack's fresh bunker to catch these blues.
On the striped bass front yesterday July 31st Captain Dan from the Island Current Fleet landed 5 keeper bass to 25 pounds and dropped a few very large fish. This says that the bass are difinately still here in the Western Long Island Sound. For both the blues and the bass Jack's fresh bunker, fresh mackeral, Jack's fresh clam and Jack's Jumbo sandworms are the best bait. Remember chumming is a must to keep the fish around your area!

These fish are being caught from the Whitestone and the Throggs Neck Bridges to all of the points east Hewlett Point, Prospect Point, Matinicock Point, Sands Point and also along the beaches of Bayville, Harts Island, The Blouses, Big Tom, by the City Island bridge, City Island gas dock and along the gravel barges. Best bait of course is Jack's Jumbo spearing and fresh cut sushi grade squid and strips of Jack's fresh bunker. All on fluke rigs, fluke hooks or buck tails. August are the two best months for fluke fishing. We have an extended season this year until the end of September.
So make sure to get out these next 60 days and fish hard for these fluke you may be rewarded with a 15 pounder.
On the porgy front the porgies have been dodging the bluefish for the past few weeks in the areas of New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye also by Sands Point, Prospect Point and Execution Lighthouse. People have been catching their limit fishing in 15-25 feet of water using Jack's Jumbo sandworms, Jumbo bloodworms and Jack's fresh clams. Remember chumming is a must for porgies too.
So for the next 60 days Jack's advice is to fish hard, fish long for a fish on.
