It looks like we finally made it through another cold, snowy, windy, rainy winter. The first day of spring is one week away and opening day for striped bass in the Hudson River north of the George Washington Bridge is Tuesday March 16th! It is time to dust off your rods and reels, get them into the shop for new line because of course there is only one thing between you and that big 50 pound striped bass and that is your line. We have plenty of Jack's Jumbo Bloodworms and Jumbo Sandworms in stock, we also have fresh clams, frozen herring, frozen bunker and frozen mackeral. The weather looks spectacular for this upcoming week so make sure to get out, get your bait and head out for those big stripers in the Hudson River. Jack's is fully stocked for all of your fishing needs for the 2010 fishing season! On April 1st in The Long Island Sound the flounder season will open and The Island Current Fishing Fleet, The Riptide III and Jack's Motor Boat rentals will be ready to sail.

First Fishing Report for 2010
Happy Fishing New Year!
Here are the latest fishermen's tales:
They are catching a few herring in and around Hudson Park on Glen Island in New Rochelle using herring rigs. For the black fishing the season opens again Sunday January 17th. They are catching black fish in Sheephead Bay Brooklyn and New Jersey. Cod fishing has picked up and people are catching their limits of cod anywhere from Montauk Point, Rhode Island to Massachusetts on fresh clams and jigs to catch these cod.
We are all waiting for the opening season for Hudson River Striped Bass on March 16th!

Fishing Report
As we approach the unofficial end of the 2009 blackfish, striped bass and bluefish season we are starting to see the blackfish move into deeper water anywhere from 40-60 feet east of Rye and as far east as Norwalk. These fish are moving aggressively as the water temperatures drop to the lower 50 degrees. Fish from 3-5 pounds are being caught on green crabs, Asian crabs and fresh clams out of the shell.
On the bluefish and striped bass front the fresh bunker have totally disappeared into the deeps of the ocean for the winter but they are still catching striped bass by the Throgs Neck Bridge and Stepping Stone Lighthouse on Jack's famous sand worms and blood worms. For those who want to fish with the meat the store is carrying fresh frozen bunker and mackeral and also fresh clams out of the shell. These fish are being caught in depths of 20-60 feet of water depending on the area.
Our rental boats are out of the water for the 2009 rental season but the party boats will remain sailing through Nov. 29th and The Island Current Fleet will continue to sail on nice days through Dec.20th call 917-417-7557 for more info.
We will be having our 20th Annual Holiday Sale with 10-30% all tackle in stock from Nov. 27th until Dec. 20th. Our hours for the rest of November are 6am to 6pm Monday thru Friday and 5am to 6pm Sat and Sun. We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day so make sure to come in for your bait and tackle on the Wednesday before if you are going to be fishing on Thanksgiving day.
For the month of December please call ahead at 718-885-2042 to check store hours on that day.
PS The herring fishing should begin by the end of November. Jack's is stocked to accommodate all your Herring fishing needs.
