This past weekend proved to be the start of the striped bass fishing season, rental boats, party boats and private boats all caught fish from 28 to 35 inches. These fish were caught in the local waters by the Throggs Neck Bridge, The Stepping Stone Lighthouse, Eastchester Bay and down along the East River. The best bait is Jack's fresh bunker also sandworms, bloodworms and fresh clams. Depth of water is between 15 to 25 feet fishing on the bottom.
On the flounder front the water is now warming to temperatures in the 50's which is getting these flounder out of the mud. High hook still continues to be 3 or 4 fish with plenty of chum, mussels, sandworms or bloodworms.
As far as the blackfish the season closed April 30th and no one has really targeted them as of yet this year so it looks like we will be waiting for Oct. 1st. The weather is definitely improving so the coming weeks the fishing will be improving also. Make sure to get out and get your fishing in and catch a big bass.
See You Soon!
