Fishing Report

As we approach the middle of the summer the fishing season is definitely in full force. The water temperature is around 80 degrees which makes for favorable conditions for the bluefish and the porgies. On the bluefish front they are catching bluefish to 18 pounds by Mamaroneck, Rye, Buoy 42 and in the channel behind Execution Lighthouse. These fish are agressively chasing the bunker into the backs of all the harbors. Make sure to have new line and good leaders on your hooks along with Jack's Fresh Bunker to catch these gorilla blues! A reminder The Greatest Bluefish Contest on Earth is just weeks away. Come in and sign up early. This year should be a good contest.

On the porgy front they are catching large porgies by Sand's Point, Prospect Point, Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, The #2 Buoy, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye. These fish are hiding from the big bluefish so you need to find an area where there are no bluefish and there will be porgies. Anchoring up in about 20 feet of water using plenty of Jack's fresh clam chum, jumbo sand worms and bloodworms, fresh clams and squid. This fishing will continue to get better as the water temperature increases and then decreases in the month of September.

For the fluke enthusiasts the shop has been weighing fish up to 5 and 6 pounds being caught by Big Tom, the barges, the bridges, Sands Point, Prospect Point, Hewlitt Point and any kind of structure in the middle of the channels. Best bait is Jack's famous spearing, sand eels and gorgeous cut squid. A meal fit for a king and also a large fluke!

On the striped bass front there are a few bass still be caught in shallow water with Jack's fresh bunker and jumbo sand worms and a mix of fresh clam. These fish are in the 10-15 pound range with some larger ones still being caught for some good action. The real large striped bass have moved east with the warmer waters that are now upon us. Again as the water temperatures decrease in the fall the larger fish will be on the feed again in the deep water of Long Island Sound.

We are in the heat of the summer so make sure to take advantage of this fabulous fishing!

See You Soon!
