Fishing Report

This past week has proven to be a real seafood medley being one of the most productive weeks in catching the most variety of fish.

On the bluefish front there are blues from 6 to 10 pounds in every harbor Hempstead, Manhasset, and behind Execution Lighthouse, Rye, Mammaroneck and Larchmont. These fish are feeding on fresh bunker also trolling has been producing some bigger fish out behind Execution Lighthouse. The best trolling lures are surgical tubes and umbrella rigs. You also stand a chance of catching a keeper striper while trolling and fishing for the bluefish.

On the porgy front there have been large humpback porgies being caught inside Sands Point, Prospect Point, Matinicock, Larchmont, Mammaroneck and Rye. Best bait are sandworms, bloodworms and fresh clams using plenty of chum to keep the fish around the boat is a must! Remember small fish attach big fish.

On the fluke front there is absolutely no problem going out and catching your limit or close to it fish to 8 pounds have been caught off Big Tom, Throgs Neck, Stepping Stone, Harts Island, even as close as The City Island Bridge. The further east you go and the deeper the water you fish the bigger the fluke seem to be. Best bait spearing, sand eels, squid on buck tails or fluke rigs whatever your preference. Be different try some live killies! Remember fluke season closes September 1 so you have eactly two weeks to get out and get your fair share of these nice size fluke.

On the snapper front City Island, all along the shores of Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut and even the South Shore of Queens and Brooklyn has been snapper haven. Everyone has been enjoying these the snapper fishing with snapper poppers, snapper lures and spearing for bait and they have also been enjoying watching them grow day by day.

Big John's prediction is that Sept and Oct are probably going to be the two best months for fishing in the past 20 years! As the water temperature drops and the cool fall air returns and replaces the hot summer air the fish that are now in our area feeding on all of the bait will be in a frenzy.

Good Luck Catch em up!
