As we approach the end of July the water temp has heated up in to the 70's and the fluke fishing has become abundant! Fish between 3-5 pounds are being caught off all the points, prospect, sands, matinicock, hewlett, the bridges, Throgs Neck, Whitestone, the bardges, Big Tom, Eastchester Bay, City Island Bridge and gas dock, Harts Island, Gangway Rock and anywhere from 20-30 ft of water. Best bait spearing, sand eels, squid and fresh bunker filet on a bucktail or a fluke rig. The fluke season is open until Sept. 1st so there are about 40 days left. Take advantage now before the season ends.
On the porgy front big porgies are being caught in shallow water off of New Rochelle, Sands Point, Prospect Point, Manticock Point and Bayville. The porgies are hiding from the bluefish around the boulders and rocks. Best bait sandworms, bloodworms, fresh clams and plenty of chum.
On the striped bass front they are still catching fish to 30 pounds in shallow water, Orchard Beach, Harts Island, David's Island, and anywhere you can find structure.
Long Island Sound is loaded with bunker that is why the bluefishing is red hot! Bluefish to 12 pounds are being caught anywhere from Eastchester Bay to Execution Lighthouse in the harbors and in the fleet.
The best bait is definately bunker and remember the WWICC Bluefish Contest is August 23 and 24th so come on in and sign up, get your free tee shirt and take your chance at winning $25,000!
See you soon!
