Fishing Report

June is finally here and the best month for the big bass is now! The water temperature, the moon phases, the schools of bait all come into play to make for a very exciting bass fishing day. Large bass have been caught in the mouths of Hempstead Harbor, Manhassett Bay, behind Execution Lighthouse in the middle of the channel in depths of 30-40 feet of water.

Plenty of bluefish have been mixed in with these bass if you find the schools of bunker the bass and the blues will be underneath them having a feast. No time is better than now to get out and catch some of the best bass in all of Long Island Sound.

On the fluke front there are a few fluke being caught by the barges, the bridges and all the points (sands point, matinicock point, prospect point). Best bait bunker filets, spearing, squid and sand eels. These fluke are on the bottom feeding off all the scraps that the bass and blue are leaving behind.

On the porgy front, the biggest sized porgies are being caught now in Bayville, Oyster Bay, Matinicock, Prospect Point, Sands Point and even in the local areas in shallow water between 10-20 feet. Best bait is sand worms, bloodworms, fresh clams and squid. All of the party boats will officially start sailing daily for porgies on June 12th.

Remember with all of these fish chumming is a must if you want to keep the fish around your boat and in the area of where you are fishing for bluefish and bass you use bunker chum and for porgies you use clam chum, again chumming is a must! We have alot to look forward to so make sure to stop in, get your equipment ready and fish every moment you can.

See You Soon!

Hey john,
I think Jacks Bait is the best bait shop in the whole bronx. No ones bait is as fresh and clean as yours. I also think that you have the best bait shop because your store is always clean and in as top shape as can be.
Good Luck, and i hope this year brings good business and big fish.
