Fishing Report

Todays date June 15th; this past week proved to be wonderful for porgies, striped bass, bluefish and fluke. Today is the last day for fluke until it reopens on July 3rd through Aug. 17th. By that time the larger fluke will be in the area and there should be plenty of action off all the points by the bridges and along the barges. Best bait is spearing, sand eels and squid. for the larger fish use filets of bunker or chunks of bunker.

Porgies are now open for everyone in the Long Island Sound. Over the weekend large porgies were caught both from the private and rental boats and of course from the party boats. The party boats are traveling further East and producing great numbers and great sizes on the porgy front. All of the party boats are doing well including The Island Current Fleet 1,2 and 3, The North Star, The Daybreak and The Riptide III. They are all sailing daily for porgies at 8am and 8:30am. Also in the evening for striped bass and bluefish at 6:30pm and 7pm. Call 718-885-2042 for more info.

The striped bass and the bluefish are being caught behind Execution Lighthouse, Hempstead Harbor, Manhassett Bay, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye and also in the closer waters of Pea Island, Huckleberry Island and Davis Island. The larger fish are feeding under the small pods of bunker, the trick is to get to the bottom with your bait for striped bass before the bluefish eat it. The best bait for these bass and bluefish are fresh bunker using the head or the chunks of the body or if you are lucky enough to snag one live and just let her go. Over this past weekend we weighed in striped bass from 25-40 pounds. Remember the only way to increase your odds of catching these beautiful bass, bluefish and porgies is to make time to get out and fish!

See You Soon!
