Fishing Report

Things could not have timed out any better being that the unofficial start of the summer is upon us and the striped bass and blue fish have invaded the area. Tuesday May 25th I weighed in hundreds of fish from the 20's to as big as 36 pounds. These fish are biting on Jack's fresh bunker and are being caught by The Stepping Stone Lighthouse, Throgs Neck Bridge, Maritine College, Ft. Toten, Hempstead Harbor, Manhassett Bay, Hewlett Point, and in the middle of the sound behind Execution Lighthouse. Depths of water as shallow as 20 feet to as deep as 50 feet or somewhere in between. These fish have come out of the river, they are hungry, they have spawned and they are ready to be caught. I can not emphasize enough that from this day forward you need to be out trying to catch some of these beautiful fish whether you keep them or catch and release them just get out and enjoy!

On the fluke and porgy front I have weighed in fluke to 7 and a half pounds. These fish are being caught off all the points from 15-25 feet of water. Best areas Prospect Point, Sands Point, Matinicock Point, Bayville, Hart's Island, and along all the barges and bridges in the area. Best bait Jack's jumbo spearing, fresh sand eels and gorgeous white squid. The porgy season has opened May 24th for all recreational fishermen. I weighed a 3 pound porgy yesterday May 25th. These large porgies are coming down from the east and are very aggressive and very hungry for Jack's jumbo sands, fresh clams and plenty of chum. Remember if you are anchored up chumming is a must! These fish are being caught off all the points, Prospect Points, Sands Point, Matinicock Point, and behind Execution Lighthouse in depths of 15-20 feet of water.

Everyone here at Jack's would like you to enjoy your Memorial Day Holiday Weekend!

So Please come on down, rent a boat, buy some of Jack's fresh bait, get on one of our 5 party boats and or charter boats and catch some fish.

See You Soon!
Big John

Hi I just wanted to say I enjoyed a wonderful day out on the skiff boat with my husband on Saturday May 29,2010. What really is bothering me is that when we came in from a great day of fishing we happened to forget one of our poles behind by the skiff boats. What might just be a pole to anyone else is more to me..... Let me tell you my dad taught me how to fish when I was a little girl and took me fishing every chance he could. Now back to the pole. My Dad gave me that pole before he passed away 10 years ago....He can't give me another one!! It is a 6' black ugly stick with a black Daiwa baitrunner reel. So please if you read this and know where my pole is can you please turn it in to big John for me for it is more than just a pole to me... No questions asked...
Thank you,
Lori D.....
