Fishing Report

The porgy season has officially closed for private boats, rental boats and off the shore but not for the party boats and charter boats. Both the charter and party boats are able to fish for porgies until Oct.11th with a bag limit of 40 fish per person. The Island Current which sails behind Jack's Bait and Tackle on City Island in The Bronx New York has a special RSA permit which allows him to fish for porgies until they stop biting so for those people who still want porgies come on down and jump on a party boat and fill up your freezers for the winter.

October will bring on some of the best fishing that the Western Long Island Sound has to offer. As the water temperature drops the blackfish, the bluefish and the striped bass will begin to feed. Oct. 1st is the official opening of blackfish season. We are fully stocked with all types of crabs and special hooks and Jack's blackfish jigs also plenty of fresh bunker and live eels. The best blackfish spots early in the season are Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, Davis Island, Hens and Chicken, Rye, Mamaroneck, and some deep spots behind Execution Lighthouse.

The stripers and the blues are still biting in the middle of the sound behind Execution Lighthouse. Best bait is Jack's fresh bunker, Jack's jumbo sand worms, Jack's fresh clams and of course for the blackfish Jack's live crabs.

The number of fishing days are limited in the next two months so make sure to get out every day you can. Also make sure to stop in and get your Grunden's warm and weather proof gear for the fall and winter season.
