As we approach the heart of the fall fishing season the water temperatures are beginning to drop and the fish are beginning to feed.
On the blackfish front this has been some of the best black fishing in many years with fish being caught up to 5 and 6 pounds with some larger in the mix. Depths of water are anywhere between 10 and 30 feet. As the water temperature cools even more they will move deeper. Best areas are Red Buoy 2 off of New Rochelle, Pea Island, Huckleberry Island, Hens and Chicken, David's Island and all along the Conn. shoreline from Larchmont to Mamaroneck East also by the CBS tower and Hart's Island. Best bait Jack's live fiddler crabs, live green crabs and live Asian crabs. Note that the black fishing will continue to be extremely better each day throughout the next 30 days so make sure to get out and take advantage of the warm enough to fish weather before it gets too cold.
On the porgy front The Island Current fleet, docked right here behind Jack's Bait and Tackle is the only local boat with the special RSA permit for porgy fishing and they will continue to fish for porgies until at least the end of Oct. into November until it becomes too cold. They will probably be running some special trips for blackfish so call 917-417-7557 for updates. Best bait for porgies are Jack's Jumbo sandworms and Jumbo bloodworms.
For the bluefish and striped bass enthusiasts there are still plenty of bluefish in the middle of Long Island Sound in 30-50 feet of water. These fish are eating Jack's fresh bunker and anything else they can get their teeth into. There are a few striped bass mixed in but most of the stripers seem to be hanging around in shallow water. The striped bass fishing is best along the shore lines, off the beaches and the bridges also using Jack's fresh bunker, fresh clam and Jack's Jumbo sand and blood worms.
The next couple of weeks are probably going to be the best for fishing so make sure to get out and get fishing.
*** Also remember starting November 1st until Dec. 24th Jack's will be holding its annual sale with 10% to 30% off everything in stock.***
Jack's rental boats will be available until at least mid November for 6am-4pm rental.
Don't forget Jack's carries all Grunden's products online and in the shop to keep you toasty and dry.
See You Soon!
