We are now in the month of November with the days getting shorter and the nights getting longer. It is now time to take advantage of every nice day to fish for striped bass, blackfish, and some scattered bluefish.
On the striped bass front I have been weighing in fish up to 30 pounds which have been caught off the shore from the Whitestone Bridge and Throggs Neck Bridge areas east. Best bait is Jack's fresh bunker. The striped bass right now are mating and will be for the next couple of weeks until the water temperature drops into the mid to lower 50's. When the temperature does drop the bloodworms, sand worms, and fresh clams will be the best baits for these striped bass.
On the blackfish front the store has been weighing in fish up to 10 pounds which are being caught by Huckleberry Island, Hen and Chicken, Pea Island, Rye Playland and in the middle of the Long Island Sound over any structure or drop off. Depth of water 15-50 feet. As the water temperature drops these fish will move deeper and deeper throughout the month. Best bait fiddler crabs, Asian crabs and green crabs.
On the bluefish front there are still alligator blues being caught in the middle of the Long Island Sound behind Execution Lighthouse. These fish are being caught in 30-50 feet of water with Jack's fresh bunker on the bottom. The bluefish should hang around for another few weeks until the water temperature gets too cold. Remember November is the time when all fish gather up and put their feed bag on and eat like its their last day so make sure to get out and feed these fish.
Jack's Bait and Tackle's 10-50% off everything in stock sale from Election Day through the holidays. Call for store hours. Rental boats will be in the water for another couple of weeks weather permitting. Right now the bait shop hours are Mon-Fri 6am-6pm, Sat and Sun 5am-6pm.
See You Soon!
